| Dear Fellow Parrot Lovers, I'm writing to tell you about my latest project, a parrot-welfare children's book called, Here, There and Everywhere, that will be published in time for the holidays. It is about a Rainbow lorikeet named Sreeeeeeeet who is trapped by poachers in the rainforest of New Guinea. He is sent to the U.S. and sold by a New York City pet store to a little boy named Peter. The two learn about living in captivity and Peter realizes that to truly care for a parrot, one has to help keep them in their forests, not caged in our living rooms... One 3-1/2-year-old girl said after hearing it,The birds colors shined much brighter in the forest than in that little cage. Following the story are educational pages about parrots, the Indonesian Parrot Project (IPP), which Here, There and Everywhere is partnered with for conservation. IPP has been rehabbing and caring for confiscated lorikeets and, even releasing some back to their forests (which mirrors my story). There are also pages about the crisis of unwanted and neglected parrots in the U.S. My story and the fabulous illustrations, like this one,by artist Lisa Brady has garnered some remarkable advance reviews... |
