How It Began
Max's Story

It all started years ago with a call from a local vet asking us to take in
an abused/neglected bird. At the time we already had four parrots to
complete our flock---or so we thought...........
We started with taking  in George, a very large Congo African
Grey who had been locked in a room with little to no contact. The
contact he did have was negative and abusive. He had a large
vocabulary and was very capable of using words in context. He used
to mumble and belittle himself - It was all he knew!
The first thing we did was change his name from George (we
already had a Georgie) to Max. It was out with the "bad" bird and in
with the "good". We taught him to relate all things good to his new
name. No more did he have to sit in the corner of his cage cowering
and saying "George is a bad, stupid bird"; Max was a good bird. Now
if you ask Max if he is a good bird, he answers with a resounding
"YupperDoodles!"!!
From there on out we were done for. We started to take in abused,
neglected and unwanted parrots. We started to rehabilitate medically
and behaviorally if needed and match adopting applicants with the
needs and personalities of our feathered visitors. Applicants are
screened and must agree to many terms and conditions before any
bird will be placed with them. Sure it's a lot of work, but the rewards
are many and we can ensure that any bird that goes through our
service will have the best care and future to the best of our ability. The
extra effort makes a world of difference!
We became a State recognized non-profit in 2003 and a 501(c)3. We
are governed by a Board of Directors. What started as a hobby and
labor of love is STILL a labor of Love, just run by many more loving
people!
