Our
Mission

Our mission is focus on abuse prevention and to pursue the rescue of abused, neglected,
unwanted or displaced companion psittacines (parrot type birds) where we specialize in
identifying any medical, behavioral, dietary, or other needs and treat the bird as necessary. We
find adoptive home from interviewed applicants that meet or exceed the same standards of
commitment we expect of ourselves while placing emphasis on education of current or future
bird owners as well as the general public. We teach about the compassion, commitment, care
and information required for companion avians to thrive in domestic situations.

We also commit ourselves to offering aid to elderly or terminally ill applicants who inquire of the
organization to have a companion songbird or other small bird to offer comfort in the final days
of the person(s) utilizing the service.
Proof from Hospice or your doctor is required in order for
you to be eligible for this service.
PPAR provides the cage and food. There is no charge for
these services, though donations are always welcome.

Whether the bird is a seemingly devilish creature,

its noise level is too loud, or a new baby and jealousy
enters the home - we are here to help. Whatever the reason we will take in Parakeets, Cockatiels and
Finches all the way up to Macaws and give them a second chance in a new home. Our goal is to be
non-judgemental  (in most cases other than serious abuse) and to aid in any behavioral. medical or nutritional rehabilitation if needed.

We encourage owners to utilize our services. There have been instances
where people will release a bird outside and we want to convince owners to be responsible and call us
instead. Domestic raised birds cannot fend for themselves outside for long and to let them go outside is the
same as giving them a death sentence. Outside they would live for a few days until they starved, dehydrated or are predated upon.

Birds who have had their beloved owners pass away without making provisions for them are another
welcomed displacement. Bonds between owner and avian are often immeasurable  and to be suddenly
severed by a death may cause stress and depression in any avian companian. We place special attention
on the needs of all the birds coming through our facility and match the needs of the birds with the
capabilities of our qualified and experienced staff.

We love each and every bird who comes to us. We love the little naked
plucker and
the African Grey with the potty mouth.

We  set up an individualized  treatment plan for each bird and how we will work with them -  Health and Wellness checks,
dietary needs, socialization levels, ability to entertain themselves with toys and ability to interact with other
birds or humans are all checked, noted and used to plan what will be the best treatment of each bird and ultimately what
kind of family will be best to adopt it.

Who Is Allowed to Adopt?
Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to fill out an application. Each potential adopting family is screened
and interviewed to see which kind of bird they would best be paired with. A first time bird owner will not
typically be paired with a Macaw that needs an experienced handler, and in the same sense an
experienced Macaw owner of 15 birds won't necessarily get the macaw either because of possible time
constraints they would have in offering one on one time. Each condition is looked at and decided on for its
own merits and how it will benefit the bird the most.  Family size, financial situation, other pets, experience
and how much time you can spend with the potential new companian are all included in the decision for
being able to adopt.
All who adopt are required to take  a minimum one hour education course. Educational courses may cover
topics from nutrition to biting to first aid and are aimed to expand the owners knowledge of care as well as
their interaction with their companian. We want all placements to be permanent so we strive to offer the
tools for families to do just that. We also ask all to call with any parrot related question at any time. We
want to help you and your bird in any way we can, whenever we can.
